Mission
The MCCS was founded in 1999 with the mission of being an
outreach group for the larger chorus to our communities in the Greater Monadnock
Region. They have had many successful performances
in our area with many positive comments and have brought in significant
income for the MC coffers - more performances will be added this year. The singers have truly dedicated
themselves to polishing repertoire, being very flexible with availability for
engagements, and showing enthusiasm for our mission. The MC Board fully backs the Chamber Singers and feels that this group will be
crucial to accomplishing many of our goals for the future.
The mission of the Chamber Singers is:
-
to provide Monadnock Chorus singers with a smaller group
of auditioned singers who can try different music, challenge their
skills, and perform in different venues than the larger chorus
-
to perform for a variety of audiences - schools, nursing
homes, Chambers of Commerce, community groups, etc. to carry out the
outreach goals of the Monadnock Chorus
-
to help the Monadnock Chorus become better known in the
Monadnock Region through participation and performance at venues where
the full Chorus cannot sing. We hope that ultimately this will
attract new singers, increase ticket sales, and augment both private and
business donations.
-
to sing at Monadnock Chorus concerts as requested by the
Choral Director.
Eligibility
In order to be a member of the Monadnock Chorus Chamber Singers,
you must:
-
be a member of and singer with the Monadnock Chorus.
(The Director may choose guest singers to rehearse and
perform with the MCCS at his discretion and the Board's approval.)
-
satisfactorily complete an audition for the Choral
Director. The audition will include sight reading, ear
dictation/tonal memory, and preparation/performance of a short piece.
The person auditioning may choose the piece.
-
be willing and able to meet the commitment required (see
below).
Commitment
Membership in the Chamber Singers is an earned privilege and an
honor. It requires a commitment by all members to do as follows:
-
be willing and able to come to ALL scheduled rehearsals
with the music learned.
-
be willing and able to make a commitment to perform for
the 2007-2008 season.
-
be willing and able to check email/phone messages
daily, and respond promptly.
-
be willing and able to perform at
currently scheduled performances.
-
be willing to purchase new music each semester and to
return all MC-owned music when leaving the group.
-
be willing to follow the dress code as prescribed for each Chamber
Singers performance.
-
be willing to perform in flexible groupings, depending
on the engagement (full group, octet, sextet, quartet, duo, etc).
This will increase our ability to accept a variety of performance
venues. We will try to set up our engagements so that we accept
engagements as often as possible without putting undue burden on Chamber
Singers members. You can have some input on what that number of
engagements will be.
Auditions: MCCS will be
re-auditioned every three years (from each member's anniversary date) OR
at the discretion of the conductor.
Rehearsals: Rehearsal dates for MCCS are to be
determined.
Contact Sandy Jackson (see contact info below).
Rehearsal time has been from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the Union Congregational Church.
See schedule below. Each member is responsible for attending at least 3 of the 4 scheduled
rehearsals in order to be eligible to perform. Anyone who needs to miss more
than one rehearsal needs to be cleared by Carroll. These rehearsals are for
"polishing up" the pieces, not pounding out the notes. Rehearsal tapes may be available, depending on repertoire
chosen. We hope to have repertoire available at both registration
evenings, or shortly thereafter.
Rehearsal dates:
All rehearsals are at the Union Congregational Church from
7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
