Dr. Carroll Lehman is about to begin his 20th year as Musical Director and Conductor of the Monadnock Chorus! Dr. Lehman is well known in New England as conductor, adjudicator, clinician, voice teacher. He is acclaimed for his sensitive and inspiring interpretations of the major choral works with orchestra.

He has conducted the Monadnock Chorus in such masterworks as the Verdi, Brahms and Mozart Requiems, Haydn’s Seasons and Creation, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, and most recently the complete version of the Elijah. He has led members of the Monadnock Chorus on very successful tours to Italy, Austria, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Scandinavia performing in many of the major cathedrals, including High Mass in St. Peter’s in Rome and for the Pope at his weekly Vatican broadcast. In April of 1998, he made his debut at Carnegie Hall conducting the Monadnock Chorus. In 1992, he was invited to conduct the New Hampshire Friendship Chorus on a tour of Russia, Latvia, Estonia; in 1998, he took them on a tour of South Africa, and 2006, on a tour of China.
Dr. Lehman is Professor of Music at Keene State College where he has conducted the Concert Choir and the Chamber Singers for 25 years. He founded and conducted the KSC Oratorio Society in many masterworks as well. He is very successful voice teacher, many of his students having graduated from some of the most prestigious music schools in the country including Juillard, New England and Boston Conservatories, Boston University, Shenandoah Conservatory, and Temple University, and now are performing and/or teaching.
Dr. Lehman received both the Master’s and the Doctor’s degrees from the University of Iowa where he studied conducting with Daniel Moe and James Dixon. He has also studied conducting in workshops with Robert Shaw, Elmer Isler, and most recently conducting the chorus and orchestra in performances at the Oregon Bach Festival with Helmut Rilling. |

The Monadnock Chorus is extremely fortunate to have Dr. Lehman
as its Director. His musicianship, dedication and high standards have
steadily improved the quality of the Chorus' performance and the level of its
musical sophistication. His sense of humor makes even the longest
rehearsals enjoyable.
